Julie Granstrom Announces Retirement From Dakotaland Community Insurance
Monday, December 4, 2017
“I agreed to come into the office and cover the phones at the Vic Gross Insurance Agency, while Vic & Twila Gross were out of town for a few days. I remember hoping the phone wouldn’t ring,” confessed Ms. Granstrom. Admitting she knew very little about insurance didn’t stop her from learning the business from the ground up. Julie accepted her first official appointment with the Vic Gross Agency in 1997, when it was located on the first floor of the Dakota Plaza in Huron.
In 2005, Granstrom became a licensed agent and continued on with Vic Gross through the merger with Dakotaland Community Insurance in 2012. Vic & Twila Gross officially retired in 2013, at which time, Julie was appointed the acting Manager. Upon reflection, Granstrom agrees being brave enough to answer the phone was the first step to a life-long career which she has enjoyed immensely.
Ms. Granstrom is a Minnesota native, but has spent most of her adult life in Spink County. “The familiar faces are what I will miss the most. My customers and my staff are such a big part of my life and I will miss them all,” stated Julie. Now, with retirement in her sights, Julie intends to catch up on all the things she has had to put on the back burner over the past 20 years. She also hopes to make a commitment to her yard and gardening, which is one of her most favorite pastimes. Granstrom does plan to do some traveling and spend quality time with her husband of 43 years, Richard.
